The Complete Bridal Makeup Guide Using Miss Rose: Nikkah, Barat and Walima
Share
Not every bride books a salon for every function anymore. Many do their own makeup for the nikkah, the mayun or a small walima at home. Others want to look after their skin and practise in the weeks before handing over to a makeup artist on the barat day.
Either way, bridal makeup is different from party makeup. It has to last eight or more hours, survive tears and hugs, and look good in daylight photos, stage lights and video.
Here is a complete guide, from skin prep weeks ahead to the touch-up kit your sister carries in her clutch.
Six weeks before: start skin prep
No foundation can fully fix skin that is stressed, dehydrated and short on sleep. The weeks before the wedding are the time to keep things simple.
- Don't start new, strong skincare. A new acid or harsh scrub two weeks before the shaadi is a common cause of last-minute breakouts.
- Hydrate. Drink water, use a moisturiser daily and add a hydrating serum if your skin is dry.
- Sleep. Easier said than done with dholkis every night, but it shows under the eyes.
- Remove makeup every night. Especially after back-to-back functions.
Three weeks before: do a trial
Do one full practice run at home in the same lighting you will get ready in. Take photos in daylight and with flash.
Check three things: Does the foundation match your neck? Does the base last four hours? Do your lashes stay put? Adjust now, not on the day.
The bridal base: long wear is everything
Step 1: Prep
Moisturise, then apply an oil-control primer on the T-zone and a smoothing primer on the rest of the face.
Step 2: Foundation
Bridal makeup needs higher coverage and staying power. The Miss Rose Ultra Strong Coverage Liquid Foundation gives high coverage with a natural-looking, smooth finish and is made to last. It comes in seven shades from Fair to Beige 4.
Match it to your neck and chest, not just your face. Bridal outfits often show the neckline, and a face lighter than the neck looks obvious in photos.
Step 3: Conceal and correct
Use a peach or orange corrector under the eyes if they are dark, then a concealer one shade lighter than your foundation. Cover any spots with your exact shade.
Step 4: Set in layers
Set with loose powder, then use setting spray after foundation and again at the end. This layered approach helps the base hold through long events.
Sculpt, blush and glow
- Contour: soft contour under the cheekbones and along the jaw. Keep it blended; harsh lines show up in daylight photos.
- Blush: choose a warm rose or coral for red outfits, and a soft pink for pastels.
- Highlighter: on the tops of the cheekbones and the bridge of the nose. Avoid the forehead; it looks oily on camera.
Bridal eyes
- Prime the lids so shadow doesn't crease in the heat.
- Apply a transition shade in the crease, then a deeper shade on the outer corner.
- Add shimmer or glitter on the centre of the lid, matched to your jewellery: gold for gold sets, silver or rose gold for kundan or polki.
- Line the upper lash line and add a small wing. Use a waterproof liner and kajal.
- Finish with false lashes.
Lashes make a bigger difference in photos than almost anything else. The Miss Rose Luxury 3D Mink Lashes give a layered, full look, are lightweight for long events and come in six styles. Choose a wispy style for the nikkah and a fuller style for the barat.
Bridal lips
Red is still the classic choice for the barat in Pakistan, but deep maroon, brick and rose shades are just as popular. The key is a sharp, long-lasting outline.
- Moisturise lips with a balm, then blot.
- Line the lips with a matching liner.
- Fill in the whole lip with the liner as a base.
- Apply lipstick, blot with a tissue, and apply a second layer.
The Miss Rose Lipsticks Plus Liner has lipstick on one end and liner on the other, with a waterproof, fade-resistant formula. The Set of 6 Red is handy when you are deciding between bright red, cherry and deeper maroon for different functions.
