How to Fill In Your Eyebrows So They Look Natural
Share
Eyebrows change your face more than almost any other makeup step. Well-shaped brows make the eyes look brighter and the face more balanced, even with no other makeup.
Many of us went through phases of over-threading in our teens, and the brows never fully grew back. Others have naturally sparse tails or gaps. Filling them in is easy once you know the steps, but it is also easy to end up with the dark, blocky, drawn-on look.
Here is how to get brows that look like your own, only better.
Step 1: Map your brow shape
Hold a pencil or brush straight against your face to find three points:
- Start: straight up from the side of your nostril.
- Arch: from the side of your nostril, through the centre of your eye (look straight ahead).
- End: from the side of your nostril to the outer corner of your eye.
Make a tiny dot at each point with your brow pencil. These dots are your guide.
Step 2: Choose the right shade
Most Pakistani women have dark brown to black hair. The most common mistake is choosing pure black for brows, which looks harsh, especially in daylight.
- Black hair: dark brown or soft black-brown.
- Dark brown hair: medium to dark brown.
- Coloured or lighter hair: one shade lighter than your hair.
When in doubt, go one shade lighter. Lighter brows look softer and more natural; you can always build up.
Step 3: Choose your tool
Brow pencil
Pencils are the easiest for beginners and give soft, controllable colour.
The Miss Rose Fashion 2 in 1 Eyebrow Pencil has a pencil on one end and a spoolie on the other, so you don't need a separate brow brush. It glides on for natural, hair-like strokes and is waterproof and long-lasting in hot, humid weather.
Brow pen
Pens create fine, hair-like strokes that look very natural, especially if you have gaps or very sparse brows.
The Miss Rose Water-Based Eyebrow Pen has a fast-drying, water-based formula for precise, hair-like strokes and a 3D brow look. It is waterproof and long-lasting and can also be used along the hairline.
Step 4: Fill in, the natural way
- Brush up first. Use the spoolie to brush brow hairs upwards and outwards. This shows you where the gaps really are.
- Start at the arch, not the front. Begin filling from the arch towards the tail, where most colour belongs.
- Use short, light strokes. Mimic the direction of your natural hairs. Don't draw one solid line.
- Keep the front soft. Use very light, upward flicks at the start of the brow. A hard, dark front edge is what makes brows look fake.
- Define the tail. Make it slightly sharper and thinner than the rest.
- Brush through again. The spoolie softens any harsh lines.
Step 5: Clean up the edges
A little concealer under the brow makes the shape look crisp and lifts the brow bone.
The Miss Rose Concealer Stick works well here. Draw a thin line under the arch with the stick or a small brush, then blend the bottom edge down with your fingertip so there is no visible line.
Step 6: Set your brows
In summer heat, brows can fade or smudge. Brush a clear brow gel or a little setting spray on a spoolie through the brows to hold the hairs in place.
Common brow mistakes
- Choosing a shade that is too dark.
- Drawing the front of the brow as a solid block.
- Making both brows identical. Brows are sisters, not twins.
- Over-threading to “fix” the shape. Let them grow for a few weeks before reshaping.
- Drawing the tail lower than the start, which can make the face look tired.
Growing brows back after over-threading
If your brows are thin from years of threading, give them time. Skip threading for six to eight weeks except for obvious stray hairs, and fill in the gaps with makeup while they grow. Be patient; brow hair grows slowly.

Frequently asked questions
Pencil or pen: which is better for sparse brows?
A pen is better for creating hair-like strokes in sparse areas. A pencil is easier for overall shaping and filling.
Should my brows match my hair colour?
They should be close, but usually a shade lighter for dark hair. Pure black often looks too harsh.
How often should I get my brows threaded?
Many people thread every two to four weeks. If you are trying to grow them fuller, stretch the gap and remove only obvious strays under the brow.
How do I keep my brows from fading in summer?
Use a waterproof pencil or pen, avoid oily skincare on the brows, and set them with a brow gel or setting spray.
