Glitter Eye Makeup Without Fallout: Pressed, Liquid and Loose Glitter Explained
Share
Glitter is having a long moment in Pakistani party makeup. From mehndis and dholkis to birthdays and Eid dinners, a little sparkle on the lids instantly makes a look feel festive.
The problem everyone knows: fallout. Glitter on the cheeks, under the eyes, on the dupatta and somehow on your phone screen for days.
The good news is that most fallout comes from using the wrong type of glitter or the wrong technique. Here is how to choose and apply each kind.
Type 1: Pressed glitter
Pressed glitters come in a palette, held together with a binder. They give strong sparkle with less mess than loose glitter.
Best for: beginners, quick party looks, adding sparkle to the centre of the lid.
The Miss Rose 18-Color Glitter Eyeshadow Palette has 18 glitter shades from pastel to bold, with a smooth, fine texture and long-lasting shine. It is easy to match to an outfit or jewellery.
How to apply pressed glitter
- Prime the lid, or apply a matching matte shadow first.
- Use your fingertip or a flat brush that is very slightly damp.
- Press the glitter onto the lid. Don't sweep or blend.
- Build up a second layer in the centre for maximum shine.
Type 2: Liquid glitter
Liquid glitters are the easiest and cleanest option. The glitter is suspended in a gel that dries down, so there is almost no fallout.
Best for: anyone short on time, hooded eyes, inner-corner sparkle and lower lash line pops.
The Miss Rose Liquid Glitter Eyeshadow gives a striking shimmer that is easy to apply, with a lightweight formula that is made not to crease or fade. It comes in eight shades and goes from subtle to glamorous.
How to apply liquid glitter
- Apply your eyeshadow first and let it settle.
- Dab the applicator in the centre of the lid.
- Tap with your fingertip to spread it, working quickly before it dries.
- Keep your eyes closed for about 30 seconds while it sets.
Type 3: Loose and chunky glitter
Loose glitter gives the most dramatic effect and is popular for mehndis and themed parties. It also needs the most care.
Best for: statement looks, cut creases and glitter liner.
Loose glitter always needs a glue. The Miss Rose Glitter Glue Eye is clear and lightweight, holds glitter, sequins and stars on the face and body, and is waterproof and long-lasting while removing easily with makeup remover.
How to apply loose glitter
- Finish your eyeshadow.
- Apply a thin layer of glitter glue only where you want sparkle.
- Wait until it feels tacky, about 30 seconds.
- Pick up glitter with a flat brush or fingertip and press it on.
- Tap off excess over a tissue held under the eye.
Five tricks to stop fallout
- Eyes before face: do glitter eye makeup first, clean up, then apply foundation and concealer.
- Tissue shield: hold a folded tissue under your eye while applying glitter.
- Tape cleanup: lightly press sticky tape on fallout to lift it. Never rub.
- Less is more: keep glitter on the centre of the lid, where it catches the most light.
- Set with spray: a light mist of setting spray at the end helps everything stay put.
Glitter placement ideas
| Look | Where to put glitter |
|---|---|
| Soft party | Centre of the lid only |
| Inner sparkle | Inner corner and a little under the lower lash line |
| Halo eye | Centre of the lid, with darker shadow on both sides |
| Glitter liner | A thin line above black liner |
| Full mehndi glam | Whole lid, with a matching shade underneath |
Removing glitter safely
Never scrub glitter off with dry tissue or a rough cloth. Instead, soak a cotton pad in an oil-based remover, press it on the closed eye for 20 seconds, then wipe gently downwards. Use tape for any stubborn pieces on the cheeks.
Only use glitter that is made for cosmetic use around the eyes. Craft glitter is not designed for skin and can scratch the eye.

Frequently asked questions
Which glitter is best for beginners?
Liquid glitter. It goes on like a gel, dries in place and gives very little fallout.
Can I use glitter without glue?
Pressed and liquid glitters don't need glue. Loose glitter does, or it will fall all over your face.
Can I wear glitter with glasses or sensitive eyes?
Yes, but choose liquid or pressed glitter over loose, keep it to the centre of the lid and away from the lash line, and stop if your eyes feel scratchy or start to water.
How do I match glitter to my outfit?
Pick the metal of your jewellery first: gold, silver or rose gold. Then add a coloured glitter only if it appears in your outfit.
Does glitter look good on brown eyes?
Very. Gold, bronze, copper and rose gold glitters make brown eyes look warmer and brighter.
